Employment History

February 2013 - Present: I am working as a contractor for Rico Logistics providing technical courier services and installation / set up of new or replacement IT hardware. This is mainly EPOS equipment but I get involved with the repair and service of desktop computers and laptops in large companies.  As of April 2013 I hopefully will be fully self employed and I will be possibly looking at working for other companies or domestic work if I have enough free time available.

December 2012 - February 2013: Working for PPR Solutions on various projects. One was working for Santander group to provide a site audit and IT equipment functionality test in preperation for new equipment roll out later in the year. The second project was to replace chip and pin machines on photo kiosks in supermarket stores. This involved replacing an older serial based device with a newer ethernet based machine and required modification to the kiosk and software updates.

May 2011 - November 2012: Self employed contractor working for PPR Solutions. I had a contract with Comet PLC where I worked as a repair technician in their central repair centre for IT hardware. My duties in this role varied from day to day. It can be processing store return computers, laptops etc to ensure all personal data is wiped from them and repair if needed or inspection and repair of extended warranty / insured customer equipment. We aimed to repair the same day for customer work so Comet need experienced engineers to diagnose the faulty part more or less straightaway and to be able to rectify the fault quickly. I repaired desktop PC's, tablet computers, laptops, all-in one PC's and Apple imacs.

August 2008 - April 2011: FGS Services (UK) LTD working in a computer repair and sales shop where I was employed as a workshop engineer. As I was the only engineer, my duties included full responsibility of the workshop, repairs and spare parts stock. My work also included dealing with both business and private customer sales and resolving complaints. FGS was an Acer approved repairer and sold a large variety of computers, accessories and consumables. I was frequently left in charge of the shop when the owner and other employee were out on site. FGS also had a large business customer base several of which had maintenance contracts and purchased bespoke software which FGS wrote and tailored to the customer's needs. Unfortunately the business ran in to cash flow problems and I was made redundant.

March 2002 – May 2008: ICM Support Services PLC employed as a bench service technician where I repaired laser printers for approximately a year then moved on to monitor repairs for around 2 years then on to single phase UPS repairs & PC / server repairs which continued till I left the company. ICM was a large business employing over 500 employees; there were 17 workshop technicians. ICM was taken over and the engineering dept re located to Northampton and I was made redundant.

July 1997 – March 2002: Videss LTD, I was employed as the workshop engineer where I repaired computer monitors, PCs, servers and laser printers to component level. I have also worked on large servers configuring RAID arrays and setting up the system hardware. I have done some field service work where I repaired PCs and printers on site, monitors were done in the workshop. I was also responsible for sourcing and ordering electronic components and parts.

Later, I was involved in removing virus infections from entire networks, this involved going round each PC putting right the damage the viruses caused and then installing Netshield, a well known corporate anti-virus suite from Network Associates. Videss later chose to close the repair facilities and offered me a new job internally as a preventive maintenance engineer; largely involving checking backups. I left the company to work at ICM which offered better prospects.

July 1996 - April 1997: Baron Systems LTD, employed as a bench repair engineer repairing computer monitors, terminals, printers, P.C`s and other related equipment. I also was responsible for ordering parts for equipment and the upkeep of the engineering spare stores. Baron Systems was a small company employing around 50 employees, now no longer in business which was my reason for leaving.

October 1993 - July 1996: Yorkshire Cable LTD, joined as trainee installation / service technician working on cable television and telephony equipment. After 8 months I was promoted to service technician which involved entering customer’s premises to carry out various repairs etc. to television and telephony equipment. I left Yorkshire Cable due to internal restructuring.

June 1993 - October 1993: Phaselec LTD, Joined as apprentice electrician / electronics engineer, the work largely involved the repair of industrial control systems and installation of electrical wiring / fittings in new and renovated buildings. I left the company as I was offered a job with a better wage & career at Yorkshire Cable.
